Problem Statement

Currently, both Snapchat as well as Instagram have 'games' integrated with AR in their platforms.

These games use your camera and act as a filter, enhancing your face and they also fullfill a myriad amount of other experiences.

However it seems that these filter-type of games do not always provide users with an effective and efficient user experience.

Users are having difficulties with navigating and finding the correct information in these type of 'gamified' experiences.

Additionally, the UI that currently supports can be unclear & confusing.

As a result, users are likely to have a negative experience, when it comes to using these type of AR filters and therefore, may
not be interested in returning and finding similar type of experiences.

Idea & Goal  - Deliverables
It is in within the clients interest to step foot into the current existing market. The goal is to develop their own AR filter games supported with strong UX/UI foundation. This is where I jump in.

The Idea is to design a blueprint and develop a prototype user interface on mobile devices, that would be able to manifest as an UI/UX framework specifically for Dutch Game Studios  AR filtergames and within the chosen social platforms, which are Snapchat and Instagram.

Design Process

User research summary

To better understand the market and its users, I conducted user research and interviews.
The first quantitative interview was catered towards students and young adults (target audience) that frequent social platforms.
I conducted a second qualitative interview, specifically if they have had played the AR games that are within these filters.

Observations

Pain Points

- Most users have trouble at the start of these games and take a bit of time to find out what they need to do

- To much of a contrast between the user interface of filter games

- Little incentive towards challenge and replayability

- No direct way to connect and share this game with friends & relatives

- Unclear beginning and ending

Key Insights

Project lead specifically pointed towards the importance of simplicity in design, to even cut most of the functionality of a game. Keep it bare minimum -

Keep a logical and smooth structure of the 'flow' -

Find a way to connect more of these filter games with the social platform, friends & relatives etcetera -
Make it clear to the user that there is a start and an ending -
 Unclear beginning and ending -
Find a way to make it a challenging and replayable experience -

Low Fidelity Wireframes are basically frames that outline the blueprint of websites or application screens. In this case it will outline the necessesary wireframes of the screens on mobile devices.
